With Maestro Steven Errante on the podium, Lilac 94 is thrilled to finally be joining the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra on Sunday June 2nd (2019) to perform Sir Karl Jenkins' concerto for harp duo, Over the Stone (2002). Scored for two harps, strings, and percussion, the work was commissioned by the Prince Charles of Wales for the Royal Harpist, Catrin Finch.
During the week leading up to the Sunday performance, harpists Christina Brier and Kathryn Sloat will be presenting an outreach program for the Wilmington Symphony at the Williston Middle School engaging the attention of an auditorium full of students ranging from 4th graders to 12th graders.
On Friday, May 31st, Lilac 94 will be joined by the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra's Music Director Steven Errante for a special edition of the Cape Fear Region's public radio affiliate WHQR's "A Little Lunch Music." This noontime program takes place in the WHQR Gallery in Wilmington. With Errante, Lilac 94 presents an informative concert talk focused on Sir Karl Jenkins' double harp concerto, Over the Stone, and lead conversation about the harp as an orchestral and chamber music instrument. The "informance" will include a mix of performance, conversation, and encourage questions from the audience.
Sunday's concert at the Wilson Center will be followed by an informal After Party at Manna Avenue restaurant (123 Princess St) nearby. We understand that concert goers will receive a 10% discount at Manna's when their concert ticket is presented. If you get to attend the concert, please do join Christina and Kathryn at Manna Avenue!
